I was about eight years of age, when at Botanical College, I first experienced the fun from Drawing, with my Art teacher Mr Ellison ….I have never forgotten his enthusiasm and tips … “if you use yellow, you’re a jolly good fellow; if you use black, put it back ..”

One of the world’s most famous self-portraits is going on rare public display in the northern Italian city of Turin. Very little is known about the 500-year-old, fragile, fading red chalk drawing of Leonardo da Vinci da-vinci

The library’s current director, Giovanni Saccani, says nobody even knows exactly where it was hidden. “To prevent the Nazis from taking it, an intelligence operation saw it transported in absolute anonymity to Rome.”

Under such difficult circumstances, preservation was not properly considered, “nor did they have the same knowledge and techniques back then,” says Saccani. “Naturally, this did not do its condition any good.”

small_pierreaugusterenoir-umbrellas-1883 any money nor means of getting about, we had to hitch-hike from the uncultured North, to see an exhibition of paintings by the wonderful French Impressionists. They were on loan from London’s Tate

We reached Trinity College by mid-afternoon,and ten minutes later having strolled through the delightful Merrion Square with its superb Georgian Architecture,  reached  the gallery
There were so many beautiful paintings by various European painters
but what  we wanted to see were the French Impressionists, a long time favourite group of ours. They are to me probably the most famous group of Geniuses in Art ever assembled at one time ;the Pre-Raphaelites included. And I love all things Victorian.
This Art Movement featured Claude Monet, Edouard Manet, Alfred Sisley Edgar Degas and of course Pierre Auguste Renoir

We arrived at the Impressionist room and I immediately saw Renoir’s famous painting “Les Parapluies”

After admiring the great work of Art a very large  painting, I looked around and saw that the Assistant had turned his attention to other visitors , I tentatively touched the oil paint at the girls’ legs and hoop

It was a lovely moment(obviously, It was not under glass)And I have now that sublime memory

It is an oil-on-canvas painting, painted in two phases in the 1880s, and is owned by the National Gallery in London as part of the Lane Bequest, but is displayed alternately in London and  Dublin
It is at present on loan to The National Gallery, Dublin (2013 – 2019  Pierre Auguste Renoir (1841-1
